Courses/presentations by Tibor Molnar.

For Tibor, the pursuit of understanding is the most rewarding of human endeavours

and his enthusiasm for science in all its forms is well reflected in his presentation style.

Tibor currently moderates monthly Philosophy Dinners at Fez & Co.

A quaint Levantine café at 4 Booth Street, Annandale (at the Wigram Rd roundabout).

Held on the fourth Thursday of each month, they are no ordinary “philosophy café”; rather they are a series of in-depth inquiries into the philosophical foundations of our understanding, both scientific and otherwise.

For an introduction to the kinds of things we discuss, please see the video of the first meeting, back in February 2024:

To book, please contact Suzanne at the café: info@fezandco.com or (02) 9552-2425.

Testimonials:

Excellent Course. Superb presenter. Tibor will take you on a Journey that will challenge all that you thought you knew about the universe we live in. Philosophy and Science: a potent thought-provoking mix. Thank you, Tibor!

[Brian N.]

I am a trained scientist with a PhD in Molecular Biology, i.e. I have years of experience in science and Tibor Molnar’s course on the Philosophy for Science rates for me as the most profound thing I have ever done in the academic sphere... I could not rate it more highly.

[Steven D.]

If you are looking to gain a better understanding of the world, either in a micro or macro sense, and everything in between, you couldn't find a better course or a better lecturer!

Absolutely fabulous lecture. I learnt so much and have walked away with so many things that I must learn more about. Stimulating. Challenging. Fascinating. Thought provoking. So many interesting and provocative questions. Tibor was a wonderful tutor/lecturer. His passion was contagious and very evident. The breadth of his knowledge was quite something. Amazing mind AND amazing communicator. My head was spinning with all that we were told but in a very good way! Loved it. His notes are an invaluable reference and resource.

[Helen C.]

I thoroughly enjoyed this course.  It was both enlightening and fun.

[Lyndell H.]

A very informative course. Tibor made it easy to understand even though I had no idea about the subject matter. Now I have a lot of thinking to do.

[Narelle H.]

I found the course extremely helpful. Tibor Molnar gave an excellent overall picture of Philosophy of Science. I really enjoyed the lectures which covered all angles. Whenever any of the class asked a question he was able to understand the exact nature of the question and give exactly the correct answer. He even had a sense of humour… The notes he gave us were excellent. His presentation skills are excellent. I would like to go to other lectures by him.

[Arlette S]

Philosophy for Science taught me to look at modern physics ideas in a new light and be able to understand Quantum Mechanics and other modern scientific theories.

Tibor's coursework delivers challenging thinking on how we understand the world. His courses are more than short pieces but not under the university canon. For those who do not want a degree but do want more than the short dabble, they bring the historical and current thinking alive.

I have attended a couple of Tibor's lecture series which were informative and fascinating pushing to the limits of understanding the world using accessible language without the need to do the maths.

During my classes at the University at Sydney my whole perspective opened up to understanding how the world works around me. It gave me the tools of enquiry and analysis to use in every aspect of my life. I am very thankful for the opportunity to learn under the inspiring Tibor Molnar.

If you're looking for a total escape "into" reality for two hours every week, then this just might be the course for you. Truly exceptional. Your world view is guaranteed to change....

The Philosophy for Science course is a wonderful introduction to the world of the very small and all its weirdness. Well presented by the knowledgeable Tibor, whose winning feature is that he DOES suffer fools gladly and will happily spend time explaining complex issues.

Good course with an enthusiastic tutor.

Tibor is a powerful speaker and an engaging teacher. He fosters an environment of intellectual honesty and open discussion that encourages true learning.

Love Tibor and his enthusiasm.

I have known Tibor for many years and he has always shown himself to be an engaging and good humoured wide ranging thinker, presenter, scholar and philosopher; one who is always willing and determined to question fundamental assumptions and patiently teach others from first principles. I enjoy learning from him and also occasionally challenging and verbally sparring. He is usually well prepared and ready to "take on all comers".

I recommend this course to everyone who has an enquiring mind and wishes to better understand how the world works. It was informative, challenging and entertaining and opened many windows into the physical and philosophical world. Many thanks to Tibor for all the energy he puts into the course and his inspiring delivery.

Tutor was knowledgeable and passionate about the topic.

The course confirmed/corrected a number of impressions I had from my own reading. It was extremely logical and easy to follow, and I appreciated the generous print-out, and the discussion at the end.

[John S.]

The course made deep and insightful advances in a field I have been interested in. The very thorough accompanying notes will ensure that its benefits remain with me.

[Also John S.]

The course is life changing!

The class was very interesting and informative. The tutor was engaging. I would recommend the Philosophy for Science class series to anyone interested in knowing about the Philosophy of Science.
[CCE 2016]

This course is unreal – I’ve never learnt with so much clarity before.
[CCE 2016]

I have never attended a better thought-out course than this one or encountered a better teach than Dr Molnar.

[CCE 2011]

Tibor Molnar is an excellent teacher and has great enthusiasm for the subject. He encouraged discussion and made a potentially difficult topic entertaining and easy to follow. Thanks Tibor!

[CCE 2011]

The course was presented in a systematic and logical manner, which aided by examples and the reiteration of fundamental principles over subsequent weeks provided clarity, understanding and enjoyment in learning the course content. I loved this course. It took very basic concepts, put them in a formal framework, and drew some very thought provoking conclusions from them that provided several light bulb moments and seem to have potentially profound impacts on the art of science. I can’t wait to see where it may lead. Looking forward to the next course.

[Steven A. (2012)]

The course was fabulous. It was thought provoking, confronted our long-held and deep-seated beliefs, and presented a well-structured and consistent set of concepts that will enable us to deeply examine scientific processes and conclusions.

[Also Steven A. (2012)]

Great content with depth, breadth and clarity. It is not as hard as it looks ! It will change the way you look at science, at least high school science.

[CCE 2012]

Excellent learnig experience. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to get to know Quantum physics and wonder where to start from. Attend all four terms to get the most out of it!

Tibor is an enthusiastic, engaging lecturer. Very happy!

[CCE 2013]

Excellent, committed & available tutor who goes above and beyond the necessary.

[CCE 2013]

It is a complex course extending for the year. The materials are excellent, extensive and quite beyond those I’ve encountered in comparable courses. The tutor is very knowledgeable on his topic. I learned a lot.

[CCE 2013]

I am very impressed with the course. The teacher is fantastic, how he teaches, his dedication, his material and so on! Wow!

[CCE 2013]

Tibor was a total professional and very passionate.

[University of Sydney CCE 2014]

Sets you up for an existential crisis whilst holding your hand through the process! Utterly compelling and everything you'd hope for from a challenging topic. It has the potential to change the way you think about everything....

[University of Sydney CCE 2014]

Tibor Molnar knows how to engage an interest or curiosity into enlightenment.

[University of Sydney CCE 2014]

If anyone would like to learn in a free but structured format, this is the place to go.

[University of Sydney CCE 2014]

The coarse is a gift. We’re all busy making ends meet whilst maintaining relevance with technology and scientific advancements to better understand the world we live in. We spend 2 hours engaged, informed and challenged on all these fronts. Tibor is extraordinary and generous.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

Tibor is a great lecturer in that he is able to somewhat simplify an otherwise complex topic in an interesting and humorous manner.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

Tibor was a great tutor. He is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about philosophy. He was also a highly engaging speaker, and very encouraging for us to ask questions and formulate our own opinions with confidence. I would definitely return. Thanks.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

Although the subject was challenging for me, the lecturer explained the various concepts thoroughly! I enjoyed the stimulation, an extra bonus are the extensive course notes. Will be back for more!

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

The teacher, Tibor, is a excellent teacher. I am very happy with the course material and the teacher.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

This course will make your brain hurt but in a really good way.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

This was an excellent course and I am so pleased that I did the course. The lecturer, Tibor Molnar, was enthusiastic about the subject matter and his thorough research on the subject was impressive. His expansive explanation while incorporating the students’ participation with questions into the topic at hand made this course a meeting of minds no matter the level of thinking each student had to offer. Loved the experience. Thank you.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

The tutor is passionate about what he teaches which is very important. I enjoy the lecture very much and I always can’t wait for the next lecture.

[Sabina S, 2015]

Tibor is a great lecturer, the scientific part of the subject is sometimes beyond me, but the material in general is interesting and brainstretching.

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

It is an extremely interesting and challenging course. Well presented, suitably interactive and even entertaining!

[University of Sydney CCE 2015]

Tibor is a very engaging and informed presenter who has put a lot of work into the course. While parts 1 and 2 were challenging but still accessible, I think to appreciate a large portion of part 3 you probably need strong background knowledge of science and maths.

[University of Sydney CCE 2016]

Philosophy for Science is the hardest I think all week, and I love it! Tibor is an excellent teacher with a genuine passion for discovering with us how science really works and where its next big idea might come from.

[Bennet G. 2016]

Content is fascinating and concise...

[University of Sydney CCE 2016]

And here is my favourite, from a Professor of Medicine and former Federal Minister of Education!:

Tibor is an amazing man. He made me think. He is able to tie in Physics with Philosophy, and he introduces important general philosophical principles which we don’t generally get. He is a good presenter and is good value.

[Peter B. 2017]

Tibor is open to questions and discussion to topics inside and out of the course structure, which it makes it great to be part of.

[University of Sydney CCE 2016]

This course is Essential!
